Steamboat Springs Colorado Record Breaking Snow
Steamboat Springs, Colorado located in the northwest Rocky Mountains, is known for its world class skiing, western hospitality, and incredible scenery. Steamboat Springs has a unique history. The Yampatikas Utes hunted the valley in the summers and trappers began to move in in the early 19th century. Ranchers followed and are still found throughout the valley today.
The Steamboat Ski Resort was established by two local men, Jim Temple and John Fetcher. They developed the area and “Storm Mountain” was opened in 1963. World class skiers and Olympians congregate in Steamboat each winter to enjoy the champagne powder.
In November, 2010 Steamboat Springs breaks the record for the most snowfall in November ever. The previous record was 83 inches in 2005 and they had 90 inches in November 2010. The mountain has a mid-mountain base of 47-inches, and 62 at the base. It is the deepest base in the state of Colorado. Skiers will undoubtedly be flocking to Steamboat to enjoy the powder.
